PORTAGE, Mich. —

New details in a Portage cold case murder allege Nicholas Johnson, 32, murdered 17-year-old Bonifacio ‘Facio’ Peña in 2018 after Johnson was jealous of Peña’s relationship with a romantic interest.

Peña went missing in the spring of 2018 and hasn’t been seen since. He has since been declared dead.

In August 2018, Portage Department of Public Safety (PDPS) investigators were contacted by investigators from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office about a man, Peña, reported missing in May 2018 by his family in Van Buren County.

Allegan investigators said there was suspicion that Peña may have been murdered in Portage near the apartment where he was staying by Johnson.
