Footage of Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein at a party at Mar-a-Lago in the 1990s

Ghislaine Maxwell, presently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence for her role in Jeffrey Epstein's sex crimes, has claimed that she didn't have any contact with the disgraced financier after the early 2000s.

But according to reporting from Newsweek's Theo Burman, a "newly uncovered trove of private e-mails" from Epstein's personal Yahoo account "contradict her public denials and cast fresh scrutiny on those in Epstein's orbit."

Burman, in an article published on September 11, explains, "The e-mails, published by Bloomberg and authenticated through metadata analysis, cover the years 2002 to 2022, with a concentration between 2005 and 2008, during the height of Epstein's first criminal investigation and prosecution…. The cache of more than 18,000 emails directly contradicts Maxwell's recent statements to federal investigators and undermines her longstanding claim that she distanced herself from Epstein after the early 2000s."

The Newsweek reporter adds, "In reality, the correspondence shows frequent exchanges through 2008, including over 200 messages in the first half of that year alone."

Burman notes that the "records also provide the most detailed financial map yet of Epstein's gift-giving network" and list "nearly 2000 luxury items, payments, and favors."

"The correspondence shows Maxwell actively facilitating Epstein's financial and personal dealings, including exchanges about fertility treatments, legal strategy, and luxury gifts for powerful associates, victims and celebrities," Burman reports. "Some messages made references to Trump, though they do not provide any evidence of criminal conduct."

Burman's reporting comes a time when President Donald Trump is drawing a lot of criticism from opponents for saying that the U.S. needs to move on from the Epstein scandal — which he describes as a "Democrat hoax."
