A large crack was found Thursday on a busy freeway in Hollywood after a car was struck by a chunk of concrete, injuring its driver and prompting emergency repairs that snarled traffic.

The crack was found around 7:40 a.m. by crews that responded to a crash of a car into debris on the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway just north of Western Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A woman in her late 40s reported that a baseball-sized chunk of concrete came through a side window and lacerated her left ear.

The wound was four inches long, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, which took the woman, who was in fair condition, to a hospital.
