The Town of Oakville has announced that it has filed charges following the demolition of one of the municipality’s oldest heritage homes .
In a statement issued Sept. 9, the town said it had filed multiple charges with the Ontario Court of Justice in relation to the destruction of the dwelling at 1475 Lakeshore Rd., E ., and the removal of a mature tree on the property.
The town noted the home was designated as a property of historical and architectural value and interest under the Ontario Heritage Act.
It alleges the demolition of the home and the cutting down of the tree were done without the necessary permits or authority under various provincial legislation and municipal regulations.
