GEORGETOWN TWP., MI – A West Michigan township is facing pushback from its residents over a recent 55% hike in water rates, which homeowners say was poorly planned and puts a financial strain on families.
Some residents are also claiming that their water bills have skyrocketed because their meters are inaccurately recording their water consumption.
Georgetown Township residents packed into a standing-room-only board meeting on Monday, Sept. 8, to voice their concerns on the issue. Although water rates were not on the agenda, dozens of residents lined up for over an hour of public comment to share their frustration with the board, with some complaining of water bills exceeding $600 despite using less water.
