KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Two people are facing charges after allegedly causing a crash that closed down Interstate 40 in Sevierville for over six hours Wednesday night.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. near mile marker 409 on eastbound I-40.
According to the Sevierville Police Department, a preliminary investigation found that a Toyota Camry had crashed into a semi-truck, sending it and another semi-truck into the median. The Camry then crashed into a third semi-truck and got partially stuck underneath it.
Police say one of the semis that crashed into the median fell over on its side, trapping the 58-year-old driver inside. Emergency crews extricated the driver, who was then transported to an area hospital. His injuries are currently unknown.
