DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Concerns about a drought always linger this time of year, however, with the expected heat and lack of rainfall in the coming days, a new introduction of a flash drought could be a concern.

The latest drought monitor shows many communities suffering from a Moderate Drought (D1), however, the biggest concern remains in northern Piatt and Champaign counties who are under a Severe Drought (D2).

Step outside and you will see how dry the ground is and how desperate we are for some decent rainfall. Look into the fields and you will notice the crops starting to wither and dry out too fast.

This could lead to a loss in yield when farmers are ready to harvest their crops.
