Growing up in the New England, Maddeson Hardman saw firsthand the healthcare challenges in regional areas, a reality that steered her towards a medical career.

Now a young doctor, she is nearing the end of two years of training at Tamworth hospital, driven to help "address the shortage" of rural medical services.

Her dedication to patients and colleagues has been recognised with the Health and Education Training Institute (HETI) 2025 Junior Medical Officer of the Year award.

The prestigious NSW award acknowledges junior doctors who actively support their peers' wellbeing and educational opportunities.

Dr Hardman's path to medicine was unconventional.
