PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A man who spent more than two decades living under a false identity to avoid charges in Ashtabula County was arrested Thursday by federal authorities.
The U.S. Marshals Service said members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force took Juan Carlos Munoz, 52, into custody after a traffic stop in Lake County.
Munoz was wanted on a 2002 warrant issued by the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office for failure to appear on charges of kidnapping and gross sexual imposition.
According to investigators, Munoz had been using an assumed identity for more than 20 years. Task force members spotted him leaving a location under surveillance Tuesday and followed him until a Lake County sheriff's deputy stopped his vehicle for a traffic violation. Munoz presented a fake Ohio id
