The ACLU of Ohio claims that Brewster has overcharged a fee to access public video from law enforcement.

A Brewster official said the matter is being reviewed by the village attorney.

BREWSTER ‒ The Amercan Civil Liberties Union of Ohio alleges the village violated state law by overcalculating the cost to access video footage from law enforcement.

In a Sept. 11 letter to Brewster, the ACLU says a media organization requested in August to view police body camera video from an unspecified May 10 incident.

The outlet was charged a $750 deposit to start the process.

The ACLU argues that Brewster should have charged less, or only the exact amount of money necessary to prepare the video for public viewing.
