A New Jersey man pleaded guilty Wednesday to selling fentanyl from his Somerset home, resulting in the deaths of four people, authorities said.
Mauricio Gutierrez, 52, of Somerset, admitted in federal court in Trenton to a four-count indictment charging him with possession and distribution of fentanyl and cocaine.
Gutierrez faces the possibility of up to 20 years in prison on each count. The sentences may run consecutively, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba.
According to court documents, Gutierrez sold the drugs twice on the night of June 22, 2022. The fentanyl resulted in the deaths of four people, Habba said in a statement.
Gutierrez was arrested on Sept. 27, 2023. Investigators said they found cocaine stored in his vehicle and in his home.
