MAINE, USA — Nearly a quarter century after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the memories and emotions remain vivid.

On Thursday, Americans marked the 24th anniversary with ceremonies in New York City, at the Pentagon, in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and in Maine. The commemorations included moments of silence, the tolling of bells, and the reading of the names of those who died in the attacks.

In Maine, officials issued statements of remembrance.
