Indiana will kick off its men's and women's basketball seasons Oct. 2 with a new event IU is calling Hoosier Hoops on Kirkwood.

The event will include player introductions, skills competitions, and meet-and-greet opportunities, the Hoosiers said in a statement. It will take place on Bloomington's Kirkwood Avenue, spanning three blocks in the middle of the street near the Sample Gates. It will run from 8-10 p.m.

The event is expected to take the place of Hoosier Hysteria, which is usually held later in October. The IU men's basketball team will host an exhibition game against NAIA Marian on Oct. 17, which is often the week of Hoosier Hysteria.

On Wednesday night, Indiana senior associate athletic director Jeremy Gray expanded on the decision to revamp the Hoosiers' preseason program.
