A state judge Tuesday scheduled a hearing next week on a lawsuit alleging the Town of Hempstead and several Hempstead elected officials violated state transparency laws when the former town supervisor resigned and a new supervisor was appointed last month.
State Supreme Court Judge Gary M. Carlton had ordered the defendants to file opposition papers on Monday ahead of a hearing Tuesday, but those papers were not filed. Speaking in court in Mineola, Carlton said he understood the town’s outside counsel, Steven Losquadro, had just returned from vacation and that he would allow Losquadro to file the defendants' response to the lawsuit before or after a Sept. 18 hearing.
