KANSAS CITY, Mo. — If you're a fan of dining outdoors, whether it be on a patio, at a sidewalk cafe or elsewhere, you might be in luck.
The City of Kansas City is now getting rid of fees on permits for outdoor dining.
Ordinance 250673 will now allow small businesses to open or maintain outdoor dining areas like patios and terraces without the cost of the annual $850 permit fee to the city. The ordinance will remain in effect until Sept. 1, 2028.
According to a release from Mayor Lucas's office, the permit fees were previously required for sidewalk cafes, parklets and street cafes. His office said the new ordinance hopes to help small businesses open or expand their already-existing outdoor dining experiences.
