The attacks that occurred Sept. 11, 2001, unfolded before the horrified eyes of a nation as four planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and an open field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
