Emmerdale fans are expressing their discontent after a beloved character was seemingly 'substituted' on the ITV soap.

This week's episodes saw villainous John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) drag Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), his spouse, over a cliff edge with him , shortly after confessing his heinous deeds to Aaron.

Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) arrived just in time to rescue Aaron, but John deceitfully called emergency services, alleging that Robert was threatening him.

In a shocking turn of events, John leapt from the cliff, taking Aaron along with him. The pair were swiftly taken to hospital by emergency services, where it was disclosed that Aaron had been put into an induced coma due to a brain haemorrhage.
