DANVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) - Kentucky’s highest court heard arguments over whether charter schools, specifically their funding, is constitutional.

The arguments were held at Centre College since renovations are ongoing at the State Capitol in Frankfort.

Both sides of funding debated today, arguing why the schools will either help families or provide them with an unfair advantage with tax dollars.

Supporting arguments said case law backs them up, while opposing arguments said it’s an effort to move public school money without taxpayers having a say.

One argument for the schools is that 45 states have them, that includes West Virginia, Ohio, and the other five that border Kentucky,

Those opposed said this does not fit the definition of what a common school is within the state constitution.
