ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) - Word came down Thursday afternoon of a foul-smelling quality to the water in Ashland.

An algae bloom on the Ohio River set up the water woes. In case you think that will be the only one we see, think again. In the rapidly expanding and deepening drought, blooms like this may become more common in the week ahead.

Tony has watched these blooms before and notes hydrological conditions that make September the prime for their stinking. It’s part of the drought theme in tonight’s Weather Extra!
