OREM, Utah (WPRI) — Just hours after the deadly shooting of Charlie Kirk, Utah Governor Spencer Cox shared his grief that one of academia's greatest traditions ended in violence.

"Historically, our university campuses in this nation and here in the state of Utah have been the place where truth and ideas are formulate and debated," Cox said. "And that's what he does."

Kirk was shot dead Wednesday at an outdoor speaking event at Utah Valley University. The conservative activist has been credited with energizing young voters to support President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
