Kirk, a 31-year-old supporter of President Donald Trump, was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon as he conducted an event with students at Utah Valley University, in Orem, Utah.

In Facebook posts after the Utah shooting, Knipp wrote the killing of Kirk was "well needed retribution in my opinion."

The remarks drew condemnation from several local officials, and Muncie City Council told Knipp he would be removed from his Human Rights Commission post if he did not resign.
