A criminologist suggested on Thursday that the gunman who killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk may have been trying to prove that they are "sniper worthy."

Kirk, 31, was killed while giving a talk at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. He was shot in the neck from about 200 yards away, according to reports. Law enforcement officials said on Thursday that the shooter may have been staged on a nearby rooftop overlooking the tent Kirk was underneath at the time he was shot.

Multiple people were taken into custody in the case, but the gunman remains at large, according to reports.

Casey Jordan, a criminologist and behavioral analyst, joined CNN's "OutFront" with host Erin Burnett to discuss the ongoing manhunt for Kirk's killer.

"There could be something intrinsically personal to this shooter," Jordan said. "Maybe, with that one shot, he was trying to prove that he was sniper worthy. Maybe he got passed over for a position in law enforcement or in the military, or didn't make the SWAT team. You never know until we catch them."

In the wake of Kirk's death, some MAGA activists have tried to blame the left for the incident. President Donald Trump said in his Oval Office address that "radical left-wing lunatics" were responsible for Kirk's murder. MAGA personalities like Steve Bannon and Jack Posobiec have also called for "retribution" for the murder.
