WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Court documents are giving new insight into D.C. Councilmember Trayon White's potential defense strategy when he goes to trial on federal bribery charges next year.
The U.S. Attorney's Office has filed a motion asking a judge to block White from arguing he was entrapped by law enforcement, saying his own words and actions suggest that's exactly how he plans to beat the case.
In court documents filed Monday, prosecutors say White started laying the groundwork for an entrapment defense during his Jan. 28 expulsion hearing at the Wilson Building. A truck sat outside showing White's picture and the words "FBI Set Me Up."
Inside the hearing, the D.C. councilmember wore a T-shirt stating "The FBI Killed Fred Hampton" — a reference to the former Black Panther Party lead
