LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A 57-year-old man from Mexico could face life in prison after being convicted of drug smuggling at one of Laredo’s ports of entry.

Jose Luis Valverde Ramos was stopped at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge while driving a Mitsubishi into the U.S., telling officers he was headed to Dallas for blood pressure treatment.

Authorities said an inspection revealed an electronically controlled compartment in the vehicle’s ceiling containing eight tubes of methamphetamine hidden inside Taco Bell Doritos Locos wrappers.

Ramos faces at least 10 years and up to life in federal prison when he is sentenced.
