More than 650 firefighters, police officers, military personnel and their families gathered at Autzen Stadium in Eugene on the morning of Sept. 11 for the city's annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

The stair climb serves as a tribute to the 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement and 55 military personnel who lost their lives during the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center and Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

Owen McGovern, a veteran of the New York City Fire Department and apparatus operator for the Clackamas Fire District in Oregon, spoke at the event's opening ceremony. He was pleased by the turnout.
