A Dallas homeowner is taking the county’s appraisal district to court, arguing that rising property value for a Habitat for Humanity house unlawfully places her dream of affordable home ownership in jeopardy.

Tracy Forbs filed the suit against the Dallas Central Appraisal District in the Dallas County district court earlier this month.

“This has been my dream, to own a home,” Forbes said.

A dream Forbs helped create with her own sweat equity, building her South Dallas home with volunteers from the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity four years ago.

“It (home ownership) represents stability,” Forbs said.
