CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The California 9/11 memorial ensures that we remember all of the lives that were lost on 9/11.
Erik Ronningen remembers 9/11 like it was yesterday.
He was on the 71st floor of the North Tower when the first plane slammed into the building.
"The explosions above was so enormous I thought the tower was coming down," Ronningen said.
After an hour down 71 flights of stairs, Ronningen finally made it outside.
"I turned around and I looked at the towers and I became aware that the South Tower had been hit and it was totally engulfed in flames up above, and I immediately knew this was a terrorist attack," Ronningen said.
After attempting to save his best friend inside the South Tower at the security command center, he was able to escape despite the debris and fl
