La Center School District teachers continue to strike.

The La Center Education Association went on strike Sept. 3, one week after school started. Bargaining for a new contract began in February.

La Center has proposed a 9.22 percent salary increase over a four-year contract, which is all funded by the state through cost-of-living funds estimated based on inflation, according to the district’s Sept. 5 contract negotiations and fiscal stability FAQ .

The union’s proposal is a 9.9 percent increase over four years, costing the district $77,672, according to the district’s FAQ.
