LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — Secretary of State Bob Evnen returned to Nebraska after a trade mission to Kenya, bringing with him an understanding and controversy for truckers.

Evnen got back to Nebraska on Wednesday after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Kenya. That visit sparked online rumors that there had been an agreement to provide Kenyans with trucking jobs in Nebraska.

However, the memorandum, signed on Sept. 2 and provided by the Secretary of State’s office to 10/11 News, does not include any mention of Kenyan involvement in Nebraska’s trucking industry.

During his trip, Evnen’s office said the secretary primarily focused on promoting Nebraska corn, ethanol, dried distillers grains and irrigation technologies.
