FRIEND, Neb. (KOLN) - The Nebraska Public Power District is continuing recovery efforts from last month’s storms, and on Thursday it used a helicopter as part of the project.

A chopper carried large wooden structures through the air to help repair 41 transmission structures damaged Aug. 9 near Friend and Dorchester.

NPPD said building the massive facilities off-site and dropping them into pre-drilled holes aerially is the safest and most efficient way to complete the repairs.

While the line being down hasn’t affected any customers, officials said it could pose problems if another storm hits before it is fixed.

“It is important for the crews to get those restored in a safe and timely fashion, especially as you get into the winter months where we get blizzards,” NPPD spokesperson Grant O
