STONEWALL, La. – The owner of a Christmas park that opened last year in Stonewall said proposed changes to the town’s revised noise ordinance could shut him down, as well as the rest of the town.

Lumiere owner Perry Thompson based his comments at Tuesday night’s Town Council meeting on the results of two private sound studies he commissioned in response to introduction of the ordinance that was up for a vote. According to an analysis he presented to council members, the ambient environment – or the general noise of the surrounding area – already challenged the baseline set by the ordinance.

After more than a half-hour of discussion, the council voted to defer action on the ordinance to allow for an independent noise study and review of the ordinance. It will also pay $2,300 to a company
