MONROE, La. (KNOE) - On the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, first responders and students in Monroe gathered to reflect on the lives lost — and the values that continue to inspire service today.

At the Monroe Fire Station, retired firefighters and community members spoke about the courage shown by emergency personnel on 9/11.

According to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and 8 EMTs died while responding to the attacks in New York City.

“We look back on September the 11th and all those responders were running into that building and not really too concerned about their own safety,” said Bronson Moss, a retired fire fighter of the Monroe City Fire Department. “That still happens every day.”
