PORTLAND, Maine — Portland school district officials have reported that a parent, Denis Omar Rivera Martinez, was detained by unidentified law enforcement officers Thursday morning after dropping off their child for class.
Portland Public Schools Superintendent Ryan Scallon said in a community letter that the incident happened around 8 a.m. on the access road for the Gerald E. Talbot Community School. The agents were reportedly using unmarked vehicles and wearing vests labeled "police."
When a district administrator approached the officers to ask about their presence, they did not identify what agency they represented. The Portland Police Department confirmed with the district that they were not Portland police officers, according to Scallon.
