VANCOUVER, Wash. (KPTV) — A Vancouver family is starting from scratch after they were evicted from their home of more than 15 years.

After the family’s belongings were left out on the sidewalk, the local community is helping them get back on their feet.

Tom and Marlene Berg had turned their house into a home over the years. The Bergs are both in their 80s and Tom is a disabled veteran. Erik Berg, the couple’s son, and his own child moved into the home so Erik could help care for his elderly parents.

“We lived in this house for 15-and-a-half years,” Marlene said.

This year, however, the Bergs struggled financially and fell behind on their rent. According to the Bergs, they received an eviction notice and were told to move out by Sept. 2. Two days later, the Bergs came home to a nightmar
