COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — I am standing in front of Canfield Mountain now because today’s 9/11 ceremony was especially heavy for the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, which honored those who have made sacrifices both across the country and right here in North Idaho.

Grief, loss, fear, and hope were all mentioned within a crowd that gathered in Coeur d’Alene at Silver Lake Mall.

Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris teared up in front of the crowd, reflecting on not just the impacts of 9/11 but violence North Idaho has seen this summer, between the deadly carjacking incident on the stateline and the ambush attack on two firefighters on Canfield Mountain.
