Jandakot residents who say they are trapped with “unsellable” rural properties because of contaminated groundwater want their land fast-tracked for residential development.

In 2022 people living on and around Clements Place and north of Bandicoot Reserve were told PFAS, a carcinogenic chemical used by firefighters and likely to have originated from Jandakot Airport, had contaminated their groundwater.

They were told it was too dangerous to drink from their taps, water their gardens or even top up their pools.

Caroline and David Masters said they were told to stop using their bore immediately and the Water Corporation had told them it was currently unviable to provide scheme water.

“We can’t drink it or irrigate it for anything edible,” Mrs Masters said.
