BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington firefighters battled a fire at the old Western Electric site on Thursday night.
According to the Burlington Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the location on N. Graham-Hopedale Road just before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday after receiving a report of smoke coming from one of the buildings on the site.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they observed a "column of smoke coming from the center of the main building on the multi-structure complex." Firefighters eventually determined the fire originated on the roof of the central building.
As of 9:45 p.m., most of the fire had been extinguished. Crews remained on scene to work on hot spots.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
