A fire in Philadelphia's Port Richmond neighborhood has left a 67-year-old man dead and another man hospitalized on Thursday night, police said.

The fire happened at a rowhome on the 3200 block of Almond Street at around 6:30 p.m.

Three people were inside the rowhome at the time of the fire, and Philadelphia Fire Department Deputy Chief Michael Richey said two of them had to be rescued.

A 67-year-old homebound bariatric man was on the first floor, and a 49-year-old man with special needs was on the second floor. Both of them needed to be rescued by firefighters. A third man managed to escape on his own.

The 67-year-old man was taken to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead. The 49-year-old man was treated for smoke inhalation at the hospital.
