YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown State University President and former congressman Bill Johnson touched on the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University Wednesday afternoon and a manhunt is underway for a suspect.

The assassination is the latest example of political violence happening across the country, along with the fatal shooting of a Democratic lawmaker from Minnesota in her home earlier this year, and the attempted assassination of President Trump in Butler County, Pennsylvania in 2024.

Johnson said he believes that college campuses are supposed to be a place of debate and open conversation.
