The Springfield boys soccer team looked every bit the part of the No. 1-ranked team in the state in a decisive 6-0 home win over Napoleon on Thursday night.
Senior Kyle Mortus tallied a hat trick with one goal in the first half and two more in the second half. Junior Brody Akenberger, junior Tony Redford, and senior TJ Pappas scored second-half goals.
The Blue Devils (7-0-1) came into the Northern Lakes League Cardinal Division clash as the top-ranked team in the Division III state poll.
“It feels amazing,” said Mortus, who now has 22 goals this season. “We came out a little slow. It was hard to adjust, and then we came out at halftime, made adjustments, and we were able to put a few of them in the back of the net.”
