CENTRAL ILLINOIS ( 25News Now ) - Law enforcement officers in Central Illinois are saying safety is an increasing concern that is becoming more complicated to address at large public events.
Illinois State University Police Chief Aaron Woodruff said each event is unique, requiring different kinds of security detail, number of officers, and sometimes needing to outsource from other agencies.
“We have a University Event Review Committee, and the purpose of that committee is to look at events based on the risk,” he said. “If there are certain factors of an event that are a concern for not just police, but others, they talk about what is needed to help make it safer or to make the risk less.”
