PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Resilience and overcoming hard times were the themes for students at Charter Oak Primary School in Peoria Thursday on the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Second grade teacher Jessica Fryman said she chose to teach her students about the historical tragedy on Sept. 11, 24 years ago by reading the book, “This Very Tree, A Story of 9/11, Resilience and Growth” by Sean Rubin.
The book is told from the perspective of a pear tree that survived the terrorist-suicide attacks in 2001, when the group Al-Qaeda led four plane-crash attacks on the Twin Towers World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and another plane crash in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
