TYLER, Texas — A shocking tragedy unfolded at Utah Valley University on Wednesday when conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during a campus speaking event.

The 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder was reportedly targeted by a sniper while addressing thousands of attendees, sending shockwaves through the political and academic communities nationwide.

Students at Tyler Junior College, home to a Turning Point USA chapter, are remembering Kirk’s influence and reflecting on the need for unity in the wake of his death.

“I think it's really heartbreaking, disappointing that it happened this way,” said Eva Solly, TJC Turning Point USA president.

Kylie Good, a TJC graduate, described her initial reaction.

“I was shocked. I didn't think it was real,” she said.
