LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Across the country, Americans paused to honor the lives lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
In Lexington, hundreds gathered at Kroger Field to mark the sacrifice made by first responders 24 years ago.
Lt. Chris MacFarlane of the Lexington Fire Department was one of hundreds of people who climbed in the 9/11 memorial event.
“It’s just very special for us to remember what 9/11 means and why a lot of us joined the police service or fire service because we wanted to help people,” said Lt. MacFarlane.
Georgetown firefighter Bronson Williams was in elementary school when 9/11 happened. He says he never would’ve imagined that he’d become a firefighter, but now says participating in the event is his way of honoring the victims.
