PHILADELPHIA — The best thing about the Mets continues to be their oddly reassuring website odds . No matter how badly they play, no matter how much their lead shrinks in their wild-card race to beat mediocrity, they continue to be a favorite of fancy computers.

The Mets took an 83.2 percent chance to make the playoffs into Thursday, via Fangraphs, and I can’t imagine how their hunk of metal came up with that. Don’t the Mets have to beat someone to be seen as that sort of heavy chalk?
