The woman was supposed to be protected by a court order.

She was supposed to be safe in the house she rented on her own. She made police reports and told her attacker to "get out".

But Corey Trevaskis wasn't deterred.

He ripped her door off its hinges, choked and punched her, verbally abused her, smashed a window, wrote "I love you" on a whiteboard inside her home while she was out, then armed himself with a knife and said he would kill her.

The 32-year-old man pleaded guilty this week to a string of serious domestic violence charges that will see him sentenced in Newcastle District Court later this year.

The victim was a friend of Trevaskis, and in August 2024, was listed as a protected person on a provisional apprehended domestic violence order (ADVO) that prevented him from contact
