WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

A memorial in West Sacramento has been transformed into a tribute for the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, as thousands of American flags wave.

Organizers and visitors are reflecting on its significance and the importance of remembrance.

"We want to make sure this doesn't happen again in the future," said Katelyn Brown, who watches over the memorial.

For the past two decades, the field off Locks Drive and Jefferson Blvd in West Sacramento has been a memorial for the lives lost on Sept. 11. Brown's group, 9/11 A Date to Remember, set up the memorial, honoring nearly 3,000 lives lost, nearly all represented with an American flag.
