SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Joey's Food Locker, a food bank based out of Natomas High School, has reopened after undergoing renovations to meet the growing demand for food assistance among local families.
“There's a lot of need in our communities,” said Osvaldo Ortiz, Joey's Food Locker manager and the community resource and outreach specialist for Natomas Unified School District. “Especially after the pandemic, we have actually seen an increase almost every single year.”
The food bank provides weekly groceries to Natomas-area families. The food bank recently underwent renovations to keep up with the increasing need. The team now has a designated workroom after previously sharing classroom space, as well as additional equipment and improved storage facilities.
