A man has died and another is in a serious condition after a two-storey home was engulfed by flames in Sydney’s west on Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to reports of a house fire on Sutherland Street, Yagoona, just north of Bankstown, about 1.30pm.

Two men were inside the home when the fire took hold. A 60-year-old man was rescued from the burning house by firefighters, but was unable to be revived at the scene by paramedics and died.

Another man, 86, was treated for smoke inhalation and has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Footage from Nine News shows the majority of the damage caused by the fire was at the back of the home.
