Meredith Hammat has denied she was embarrassed into revealing the extend of lead contamination in the Perth Children’s Hospital water supply, blaming health officials for the delay.

The Opposition accused the Cook Government of being dragged “kicking and screaming” into releasing the full data, that was only tabled in State Parliament on Thursday — six days after The West Australian revealed elevated lead levels were being recorded.

The Government claimed no exceedances were recorded after April 2024, but was forced to admit that was wrong days later.

Fronting the cameras for the first time since the scandal erupted on Friday, Ms Hammat blamed the Health Department for the delay.
